King Of Fighters 94 - Neo Geo Station - Another quick look

Thought i'd make a vid to show the different menus and options in the PSN port of KOF94, there's quite a few things there so the video is quite long.

One thing i did forget to mention in my previous entry was that this port actually has no practice mode. Even though it didn't exist either in the original AES/MVS versions, they did add it to the Orochi Collection and 94Rebout so thought it was a bit of an odd choice not to include it in this port.

Also another thing that was pointed out to me today was that you can actually save replays of an entire session and not just one match, a great tool for if you need to record matches or save matches to record later.

I've added some more videos from last night on to my Youtube channel, gameplay is alot smoother than in the earlier vids i uploaded. (Still not perfect but at least in some form playable.)

On an unrelated note, the next issue of Arcadia should have some sort of feature regarding KOF98UM:FE according to the Arcadia website. Will post up the preview images when they go up on that site.

And lastly NeoEmpire will be hosting a KOF02UM tournament at Ultimate Clash 4, which will be held on the Xbox360 version, on the 23rd Jan 2011. Check out the thread on NeoEmpire's forums for more details.

King Of Fighters 94 - Neo Geo Station - A Quick Play

So bought KOF94 on PSN after work today, luckily thanks to Gunsmith's post on Orochinagi i didn't end up buying the PSP version by mistake...

As a package it seems SNKP have put alot of work into bringing it on to PSN. There are loads of saving options, screen filter options, a sound test option, and a digital instruction manual which looks pretty good.

On the netcode, which is probably the main reason i bought this (already own 2 copies of it on AES, and REBOUT for ps2), it's a bit of a mixed bag. Against Gunsmith it was really bad, constant slowdown and input lag all over the place. (See video Below)

They have put some sort of ping filter in the network options though, so you can search for people with a certain set of criteria and you can also play the game at the same time. Though as of yet i've been unable to match up against anyone like this :(

I did manage to have a few playable (within reason) games after the matches with Gunsmith though, so the netcode isn't completely trash (just not very good).

Overall it's a bit difficult to recommend KOF94, it's a very old game, and i'd imagine most people would be looking for good netcode to play this (which is variable). I'd probably recommend 94REBOUT over this.

I do hope they will continue with the Neo Geo Station though, would love to be able to play some of the later AES games (like RB2, Last Blade, etc), and think it's a bit of a shame that SNKP keep churning out this same batch of games for every system.

A decent start to their PSN venture, just not quite there yet.

    Bao vs Maiko Sakae

So...You may be wondering what this is all about, well nothing important really just something i found a little amusing.

Was just watching a music video, by the disbanded all girl band Zone, the other night and noticed that one of the members, Maiko Sakae, looks a bit like KOF character Bao.

You might not be able to tell from the picture above, but take a look again at the image below from their music video of the song Secret Base ~ Kimi ga kureta mono.

Still no ? How about the one i edited below ??

You can see the music video for Secret Base embedded below, it's apparently their most famous song, there's no fireball spamming though :(

Super Street Fighter IV vs Bata

Had the winner of KOF02UM at SVB20-X Bata around my house today to play some KOF. Unfortunately due to short notice i couldn't get any other KOF players to come round, and since it's boring for him to kick the crap out of me all day he asked me if he could try out SSF4.

After about 20 minutes in training mode i told him to try playing online on PSN to see how he'd do.

Here's the first of the vids:

Considering it was his first time playing it today i think he did pretty well, seemed to do better against people who picked shotos but didn't know what to do against some of the other characters.

When i asked him what he thought of SSF4 (and playing online) his response was 'stressful'. xD

The rest of the vids are being uploaded to my Youtube Channel, there are 3 videos in total.

    Neo Geo Pad USB

Coming out next month (9/12/2010) the Neo Geo Pad USB, which will be compatible with PS3 and PC.

Produced by EXAR (who also made the Neo Geo sticks for ps2 and ps3) it will go on sale for about Y3129 (about £20ish), check out the official product page for more details.

This may possibly mean SNKP will (finally) be releasing the Neo Geo classics onto PSN that were rated by the ESRB a while back, hopefully they'll be pushing other SNKP titles out on PSN too.

    [Seen originally on NTSC-UK's forums.]

Arcadia Magazine [Jan 2011] - Preview

The new issue of Arcadia was released today, mine should hopefully be shipping tomorrow and arrive in about a week. No indication of anything KOF/SNKP related from the previews on Arcadia's official site but of course as always i'll post up if there is any.

Hopefully there will be some information about the NESiCA x Live titles at least.

For those who want to order the magazine themself, you can get it over on Playasia for about £16 (including shipping) or for a slightly cheaper rate if you subscribe

Also check out the card system course for Trouble Witches Neo! which should hopefully be coming to XBLA some time this Winter.
